Landscape Design

Adam Robinson

A coastal home in Sydney’s east, where a sloping, south-facing site has inspired a tectonic design response. The level drop from front to rear has been used to create a dramatic interior volume opening into the landscaped heart of the property.

Bringing daylight and air deep into the home are courtyards, carved into the floor plan, while externally, the building is fringed with draping landscape. A timeless material palette combines oak flooring, walls of white-painted brickwork and timber-grained off-form concrete, with external teak battened shutters that function as operable sunscreening.

Sustainable design includes double glazed windows that maximise light and airflow while reducing heat load, solar power generation with battery storage and rainwater harvesting – all reducing resource and energy consumption.

Landscape is integral here. The building is fringed with draping gardens externally, while inside, courtyards have been cut into the floor plan to bring light and air through the core of the house.

Our client’s thoughts

“Selecting CM Studio was an intuitive decision; their aesthetic and project portfolio immediately resonated with me. Working with Megan was a joy due to her collaborative approach and flexibility. We especially appreciated the animated simulation of our project, which made visualising our dream home so simple.”
